Senior Projects

This course was intended for Community Arts Juniors in their second semester and Seniors at California College of the Arts and focused primarily on the development of a community-based thesis project with a corresponding written thesis document. In addition this course fostered best practices regarding strategies for working with communities and extensive investment in professional development.  This course sought to address critical issues surrounding community-based creative practice: How do we define community?  What role can writing play in supporting a community-based project?  What relevance does the gallery have within ones own practice?  How can we assess past projects for value and relevance? Students were expected to bring their own extensive creative and personal experience to bear on this topic.  The course culminated in an anthology made up of students writing and documentation of projects.
