DIRECTOR, CENTER FOR ART AND PUBLIC LIFE
As Director of the Center for Art and Public Life at the California College of the Arts (CCA) I had the opportunity to create innovative programs that transformed and enhanced student learning, and connected CCA to local, national, and global communities. The Center for Art and Public Life is an institution within CCA which drives college wide initiatives that address critical issues in our society. Of particular note are two of the Center’s most innovative and popular initiatives, which I spearheaded, ENGAGE at CCA and the IMPACT Social Entrepreneurship Awards. In my capacity as Director I created diverse programming that connected CCA students and faculty with local, national, and international community partners through curricular and co-curricular initiatives which address critical social needs. I was also responsible for supervising a dedicated team, fundraising, developing strategic partnerships, and media outreach.
BARCLAY SIMPSON PROFESSOR AND CHAIR, COMMUNITY ARTS PROGRAM
I was appointed Chair of the Community Arts Program when I joined CCA in 2008, and was responsible for the program’s vision, leadership, and administration. As a new discipline to CCA my role as Chair came with particular challenges and opportunities including the revision of curriculum, hiring new faculty, and paying close attention to program specific learning outcome to ensure they matched overall objectives of the major and standards set by both CCA and accrediting bodies such as NASAD and AICAD. In my capacity as Chair I also closely advised junior and senior level BFA students in the program, and taught a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses across the college.
